Dog Leash Training

Dog leash training means getting your dog used to walking on a leash and doing it in a such a way as to be perfectly controlled and safe when doing so. It is one of the most important things that you can do when you first get a dog or a puppy. This is to make sure that they are trained and socialized, both for their safety and that of those around them. You can start this process when your dog is very young, and you'll find that the process is very straightforward.

When you are thinking about training, get things off to a good start. It doesn't take very long before your dog will associate their leash with getting to go outside, and if he simply takes off when the leash is attached, this is a problem. Instead of letting yourself be dragged, stand still and let him jump around. Only when he stands still should you start moving and take him out. When he gets the hint and stands still while the leash is going on and afterwards, reward him with pets and praises.

If you decide to reward your dog with a treat make sure that it's a healthy treat that rewards your dog for succeeding in your effort for dog leash training.

When you are talking your dog on a walk, you may find that he has a tendency to pull. While this might be easy to deal with when he is a puppy, think about how big he will get! A dog who might pull is one that might pull the leash right out of your hands, so use this period to nip this problem in the bud. If your dog pulls, don't let him get away with it. When he starts pulling, plant your feet and don't let him go forward until he stops. This will help him get the right idea right away.

If you are looking for a good way to make sure that your dog enjoys their dog leash training, you'll find that you need to be ready to offer up lots of praise and love. Remember that a dog is very oriented towards what will please you, and you will find that they are very dependent on you for cues. When they have performed well, let them know it, and let them know that good behavior can be easily rewarded. Take the time to make sure that you praise them for walking well on their leash and not pulling or misbehaving.
